It turns out that putting watermelon in a smoothie is a really good idea. Watermelons are huge beasts of fruit, so when there’s only two people in the house to consume said watermelon, it helps to get a little creative as to how you use it. As we all know, watermelon is great for hydration as it is approximately 92% water! So if you don’t like drinking water, having a bit of watermelon could help you out (though you should be drinking water of course).
For this smoothie, I combine my beautiful watermelon with frozen strawberries and a banana to create a strawberry and banana smoothie 2.0 so to speak. I also add some camu camu powder for an extra mood booster. You don’t need to add these superfood powders but if you have it, why not? To bind my lovely fruits together, I pour some oat milk into the blender and pile on a cup of ice.
To make your life easier, I give you mug measurements in the recipe because nobody got time for weighing fruit for a smoothie.
Ingredients & Method
Makes 2 drinks
- 1/2 mug frozen strawberries
- 1/2 mug diced watermelon (try to remove the seeds but it’s not essential – it’s added fibre if anything)
- 1 banana, sliced
- 1/2 mug oat milk (plus more just in case)
- 1 mug of ice
- 1/2 tsp camu camu powder (optional)
- Pour your oat milk into the blender first (this helps to protect the blades). Next, add all of your fruit, camu camu if using, and then the ice. Pulse until everything starts coming together and then proceed to blend, increasing the speed gradually. If the smoothie is too thick, add water. If it’s too thin, add more fruit or ice. Once you’ve achieved a nice whirlpool consistency, pour the smoothie out into your glasses and slide in your reusable straw.
